and I relive a memory from a long time ago
runnin' to the train in wet kitchen clothes
passin' a woman on the street with a broken heart
blowin' her nose and standing by a flower cart

standin on the threshold
of the future and the past
time was turning slowly
how the years crept up so fast

I recall the cold and standing in the gangway
just before I overdosed on New Year's Day
thinkin' of the kid in the soggy cotton clothes
with some quarters in a coffee can for a ticket home
and if that woman from the street ever had a place to go
